Chapter Two: Mundane in the Membrane

Someone cooked popcorn in the breakroom, the odor of singed kernels sulked under the door of the office space where several cubicles were filled with women chipping away at their keyboards. Like hens sitting on their nests, ignoring the too familiar smell produced by the overworked microwave.  The white walls absorbed the stench and the tapping and chirping of the hens. The cube nearest the malodor was Ava’s, jaded, yet frustrated she kicked the door stopper to the corner and waited for the methodically slow door to close, pushing just one last blast of burnt kernels into her face. She … Continue reading Chapter Two: Mundane in the Membrane

A I Sykes

It probably took me over 8 years to actually get to this point where I feel comfortable enough to share. A lot of it had to do with time and my grammar handicaps; also how far I can actually comprehend the solar sciences enough to create a sci fi novel about it. But then I realized, it’s not that deep. My degree is in social work with a focus in policy, not solar sciences. So I just had fun and went with it. For a few years I have been scouring through the internet trying to learn more about our … Continue reading A I Sykes

Well Damn

Yeah, I know. It’s crazy how time can flow to and fro and leave you in the drafts… It’s not safe for my mind to be constrained by such a strict lifestyle. Shit starts to get weird. My consciousness is a ping pong ball that bounces from school to work and over and over again. Eventually the scuffed light ball of being will hit the floor and roll under the sofa. Typically the player might pull another ball out or lift up the sofa. In this case, life always lifts up the sofa and continues to paddle my thoughts to … Continue reading Well Damn

It’s Available Now.

Let me just start off by saying that I am very proud of myself for completing this novel. I have never done something like this. Even though I have been writing since I can remember, I never thought I’d have a novel that is available for others to read. To be honest it’s not professionally edited. I want it to be edited and the story told through a clean and pristine lens, but I just can’t afford that. I did my best with input from friends and I just gave it to the universe. So yeah, you’re gonna find some … Continue reading It’s Available Now.

FiberSteel… I mean BioSteel

FiberSteelLet’s talk about genetics. You can’t make a Sci-Fi novel and not show a future that plays with genetics engineering. It’s happening now and it’s a growing industry, there’s all kinds of literature about the ethics of how it should be applied. There are numerous documentaries that weigh in on the topic, most recently the Docu-Series on Netflix unnatural selection. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it. Chapter Five: Greener Pastures was written well before the release of the series, however in the chapter I mention how Nobu is moving into the industry of … Continue reading FiberSteel… I mean BioSteel

Chapter Five: Greener Pastures

Chapter Five: Greener Pastures Nobu exited JFK in New York, he had forgotten the density of the noise that orchestrated before him.  His eyes squinted under his sunglasses since he had been sheltered by the sterile 10 hours of flight. He rolled the suitcase through the sidewalk as he thumbed through his phone for the address of the flat his family shared near NYU. He wanted to navigate the subways, but he couldn’t see himself pulling luggage through a location he hasn’t traveled in years. Taxis, Uber and Lyft vehicles pressed up against the curb. He tagged a yellow cab, … Continue reading Chapter Five: Greener Pastures

Chapter Four: Hole in the Bucket

Chapter Four: Hole in the Bucket   A hushed orange seeped through clouds and brushed unto them hues of purple and green. James stood on Ava’s deck, his hands fiddled with the keys on keychain until he found the one that slipped into the lock. The door squealed as he gently pushed it open, stepping into a small foyer where her shoes gathered on a rack, others scattered on the ground. Tiptoeing into the living room, past the sofa where she had fallen asleep. The sole of her foot stuck through the plush quilt she pulled over herself. The … Continue reading Chapter Four: Hole in the Bucket

Chapter Three: Rat in a Hole

Chapter Three: Rat in a hole  The handle of Heckler & Koch, 9 mm had warmed in his hand. Franc’s fingers had gripped it so many times, but today he couldn’t seem to let it down. He breathed in deeply, pushing deep into his lungs and synching in his diaphragm. His eyes, verdant, pierced down the mark that was pinned 30 yards away. He was so distracted that even the heat caused by the headphones brought his thoughts back on the words that had struck him. Franc remembered the dress Vera was wearing, the beige Christian’s that clicked past him … Continue reading Chapter Three: Rat in a Hole

Chapter One: Dawn

Chapter One: Dawn November 11, 2019 Hushed mists rolled among the corridors of the ship. A shuddering craft stabilized it’s course, blocking the specs of light-encrusted through the void. The craft diminished of all light only reflected the isolating darkness of the universe. Like a polished chunk of hematite brushing through the gaps secured the passengers held within. The ones that stirred the silence levitated through the chambers, stifled from all consciousness. A skeletal frame, slender and ripe clung to the remaining hoary of flesh. Necrosis brimmed along the edges of the creature’s extremities, the humanoid figure with legs and … Continue reading Chapter One: Dawn

Bah- ram- dip-ity

Suppression of scientific research. Cruel suppression of serendipity. I taught myself how to spell it by saying ‘ram’s say bah no dipity, no doubt’. Just a little bit of info about yours truly. The title actually didn’t come before the book, I found the name earlier this year searching through Pinterest. It’s a novel about what I found through a journey down the rabbit hole. Everyone has a conspiracy theory they toy with. The government is lying to you or Aliens built the great pyramids. It doesn’t matter the theory, it doesn’t matter what you found. What matters is that … Continue reading Bah- ram- dip-ity
